For work I’m building out a new lab for doing some concept work on a vmware environment.
I’ve got 8 hypervisors, 9K & 3K switches, 5585 firewall, and a 2k F5 in each cabinet, of which I have 2 cabinets. As this is just a concept lab, I only have 7 600gb SAS with a single 600GB SSD in each hypervisor. vSAN and VRA is the plan, as I am working on a migration path from vCloud to VRA.
This weekend, however, was cabling the above monstrosity. Time really gets away from you in a bright climate controlled room. Not only did I run all the cables for the cab, but the environment crosses into 2 cabs, for a close copy of an HA environment. So everything is doubled as I cross over to the other cab’s switches.
Surprisingly it was kind of fun to throw my headphones in and crimp cable for hours on end. It also looks perfect. Clean, labeled, and documented.
